Kemaliye

Kemaliye

We have only been back in the states for five months—just enough time to forget about the pains of jet lag and the terrible taste of airplane food. When our two best friends, Zach & Aysenur, announced their wedding in Turkey, we booked a flight without a moment’s hesitation.

It was the perfect excuse for another adventure. And a perfect reason to return to a place that we had so many amazing memories of.

We stayed in an ancient B&B with original stonework mosaic floors, and aged wooden beams. Every morning we sat for an overwhelming breakfast of freshly made cheeses, cucumbers and tomatoes from the garden, dried mulberry, deep red sausage, and a range of breads and pastries—and tons and tons of tea. Surrounded by all of our closest friends, we nursed our hangovers quietly and painfully, but together. These are the types of memories that you will never forget.

We’ve come to love Kemaliye. Gorgeous, secluded, quiet during the day, festive all night. We’ve never been welcomed so warmly from anyone, anywhere as we have from our second family in Kemaliye.

There was so much love. Love between friends, love of where we were, love between neighbors, love between strangers. And, of course, the most amazing love between Zach and Ayşenur.

And in typical Turkish tradition, the celebration never stops.

I really can’t say enough about how much I love these people and love to have experienced Kemaliye (and endless Raki) with them.
