Buenos Aires

After a long, overnight flight from Auckland, the energetic vibe of Buenos Aires was the perfect wake up. Paired with long nights of red wine and endless mountains of asado, we were totally exhausted very quickly. 

We hung out with two brother's who showed us around Las Cañitas, what they consider to be the coolest 'locals' neighborhood is Buenos Aires. But of course we also visited the hipper-than-hip, williamsburg-esque Palermo Soho, to check out a concept wine bar. The idea is to learn new languages. You label yourself with your mother-tongue's flag. Underneath those, you wear additional labels of languages you're looking to practice. Then, you wander the packed bar, red wine in hand, searching for people to start blabbering in foreign languages to.

The idea was all about inclusion, listening, and learning. Something I feel we could all really use.

It's always best to ditch the city and explore past the mass-tourist-tranist. We headed out to Tigre, a small town covering a large area of the delta. It began as an enclave for VIP bohemians, but has since turned into a locals retreat out of the busy, expensive city. 

The water makes the rules here. All travel is done by boat. Boat buses shuffle people and cases of water through the winding delta paths. The tide comes in and out, washing the foundation out from under homes every few years. Deeper pockets get you stronger foundations and smarter architecture  to keep your home more stable. But our resident expert told us most locals prefer the seclusion. The constant need to rebuild your home keeps most non-natives a safe distance away.
